Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business operating in various locations across Western Australia. All nickel operations (open-cut and underground mines, concentrators, a smelter and refinery) are located in Western Australia, employ over 2,500, and 85% of the output is sold to global battery material suppliers. The integrated business adds value throughout our nickel supply chain, with the majority of Nickel West’s current production sold as powder and briquettes.

About the Role - Job Description

Reporting into the Asset President, Nickel West, the Head of Asset Integration plays a critical role in shaping the future of NiW and ensuring our ESG foundations are in place to maintain and enhance our credentials as a Premium Sustainable Nickel producer for current and future customers.  The Head of Asset Integration, Director on the Nickel West Board, is accountable for three primary areas within Nickel West:

  • Leadership of the Asset’s Energy Management Group, with the aim of providing power to meet the Asset’s growth trajectory and enhancing the decarbonisation aspirations of Nickel West.
  • Development and Portfolio Management of the “Pathway to Net Zero” plan, with the goal of ensuring Nickel West retains and enhances its position as one of the world’s most sustainable nickel producers.
  • Providing the Technical Surface Asset interface with Major Projects, Business Development, Planning and Technical, Innovation Marketing, other BHP teams, and external Research Groups/Government Advisory bodies, to support the delivery of the business plans.

This is a global search with the role based in Perth, Western Australia.

About You - Skills and Qualifications

In this role, you will cultivate strong relationships through effective communication and consultation; shaping the culture across the Nickel West Asset Integration teams to ensure a safe, productive, sustainable, and disciplined approach to work focused on project delivery and continuous improvement.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to develop and work within team-centric delivery mechanisms holding to the highest values of integrity, care for others and psychological safe teams. 

You will be strategic thinker with the ability to focus and prioritize critical deliverables to provide clear direction, with many competing priorities concurrently.  The successful candidate will be sharp in making sound judgement, leveraging from relevant experience, including strong technical base, and working effectively within complexity.

Requirements

Minimum requirements that candidates will bring are:

  • Chemical Engineer, Electrical or Metallurgist background (highly regarded) – with the commercial savvy and ability to influence to enhance the productivity, ESG & Commercial positioning of the Nickel West Asset
  • Experience in similar resource processing, asset operations, or adjacent experience in extractives/natural resources
  • Proven experience of building and leading an inclusive and high performing culture and teams
  • Demonstrated confidence in Safety Leadership and holding yourself and others accountable
  • The ability to develop strategy, and align stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive performance through operating discipline to achieve great results
  • Experience in influencing in all directions through working with peers, internal functions, regulatory authorities, and third party or external stakeholders

Accountabilities in this role are to:
