Title: Head of Department – Build & Test
Work location: Perth based
Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will design, build and test a range of 0 emissions technologies
Based out of our R&D facility and reporting to the Green Fleet – General Manager, we are presently looking for a Senior Manager to lead the Build and Test Department which will safely build the new technology and ensure the safe and reliable testing and development at FMG sites.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Safe delivery of builds program to schedule and quality
- Ensure safe systems of work for a large workshop and site test area
- Build a committed team with the resilience to adjust to evolving scope and reporting requirements
- Provide direction to multiple reporting leaders in various disciplines including workshop, planning and warehouse
- Building budgets and forecasts up to 5 years in the future
- Lead and partner with global teams from diverse cultures and stakeholder groups
- Implement fit for purpose workshop and test systems and processes
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to review, amend and implement new processes, systems and frameworks
- Providing coaching and mentoring for reports and others
- Collaboration with other FFI/FMG departments to ensure company objectives are achieved in a safe, timely and sustainable manner
- Providing leadership and support to the broader Green Fleet as part of the Heads of Department Team
- Work with partners and Original Equipment Manufacturers to enhance technologies and develop process and systems, and supporting technical data to deploy an operations environment
- Develop the framework and specifications for ‘operations of the future’, both mining and maintenance using zero emissions power systems. This may include designing the architecture for maintenance facilities using hydrogen, ammonia and high voltage batteries
Qualifications and skills required:
- 3+ years in a Senior Leadership/Management position
- Ability to lead teams in a new, dynamic, and ever-changing environment
- Previous experience with large workshop and mine site-based stakeholder groups
- Strong cost controls experience
- Extensive mine site-based experience
- Extensive mobility maintenance experience
- Experience leading teams in areas that are not aligned with personal expertise
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Strong Risk Management and safety leadership skills and practices
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster relationships at all levels
- Previous experience as part of an interdependent senior team
- Proactive and self-motivated with a drive for excellence
