About the Role
In this exciting newly created role, you will report to the Vice President HSE Minerals Australia and lead a team of professionals to support Minerals Australia Projects (MAP). Working closely with the VP Projects MinAus and their leadership team, you will support the HSE aspects of the 5-year plan, support sustainability in design principles and manage the delivery of HSE services (directly and through project delivery partners) that preserve regulatory and corporate compliance.
The Minerals Australia Projects Team manages a multi-billion-dollar portfolio comprising 100+ multi-disciplinary projects across Australia ranging from US$10M to US$5B+. As valued partners of our Operations, Minerals Australia Projects teams are empowered to challenge the status quo to provide a competitive advantage to BHP through best-in-class project delivery performance.
As the Head of HSE – MAP you will be accountable for:
- Managing, improving, and providing expertise on health & safety risk management practices to improve organisational outcomes and performance.
- Develop service delivery model for HSE team to provide appropriate input at all project development stages as appropriate and adjust service delivery to suit project delivery models (contracting strategies)
- Identify HSE insights and emerging trends, from the analysis of performance and benchmarking data, to focus senior leadership attention and shape future improvements;
- Collaborate very closely with HSE peers across Minerals Australia and BHP Group HSE for best business outcomes, sharing knowledge and resources as appropriate and improvement projects.
- Interface with external peers/industry in projects community to bring very specific Project HSE service delivery models.
- Support the Asset Environment and Heritage teams with Regulatory approvals impacting investments
- Identify, engage, and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify, assess and make informed decisions on risks, utilising BHP's risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
- Monitor and control functional budget and workforce productivity.
- Commitment to learn and lead through our BHP Operating System (BOS) balancing functional HSE excellence with Customer requirements.
- Support Projects organisation with HSE related assurance activity
As the Head of HSE-MAP, you can be based in Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane. Travel to site is required.
About You
As a seasoned leader, you will have experience working in the industrial sector either in projects, operations or in an established HSE function and understand Health, Safey Management systems and legislation. You will be confident in operating in a complex and matrixed work environment, where you will draw on your ability to strategize and problem solve to deliver on outcomes that positively impact the safe delivery of projects.
You are at ease in working across internal and external (including regulators and large contract deliver partners eg EPCMs) stakeholders and gain credibility through your technical mastery, leadership and excellent communication skills. Energetic and results-orientated, you work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple and interdependent deadlines. As a leader, you have an inclusive style where you can lead, coach and influence large teams and contractors.
A tertiary qualification in a HSE related field, Science, Engineering or Risk Management is required.
