About the Role - Job Description

A key member of the BHP Minerals Australia Technology Leadership Team, the Head of Technology Operations provides senior leadership to our teams, focused on the management, support and delivery of IT and OT services to enable effective and reliable technology operations in all BHP Assets/locations across Australia (Copper, Nickel, West Australian Iron Ore, and BMA Coal).

The right candidate will be comfortable with driving technical requirements and standardisation across technology and asset teams and be able to collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders across BHP.

This is a global search for a role based in Perth or Brisbane - Australia. 

About You - Skills and Qualifications

We are seeking a leader with high degree of personal effectiveness, EQ and technical depth and who builds enabled teams and applies industry trends and best practices to standardise and optimise technology operations, while continuously uplifting effectiveness, reliability, and cost efficiency. You will be responsible for establishing and governing operational standards and procedures, working with relevant vendors to procure services, and providing operational expertise to drive improvement.

Requirements

Minimum requirements that this candidate will bring are:

  • A strong track record of building a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing culture across multiple locations and disciplines to deliver outcomes, including through third-party vendors
  • Tertiary Qualification (Bachelor’s Degree) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience leading large technical teams that operate and maintain technology solutions, ideally across a matrix enterprise
  • Experience with managing services within operational performance and risk tolerances; demonstrated technology incident management capability
  • Proven experience leading and influencing geographically dispersed teams and complex stakeholder environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in Safety Leadership and holding yourself and others accountable

Accountabilities

Your accountabilities will include, and not be limited to, leading teams that provide:

24/7 Technology Service Support

  • Manage operational technology support for mining, rail, port and production technology teams across Mineral Australia’s, including technology remote operating centres
  • Service management: Direct the allocation of expertise and activities to facilitate effective response to complex and sensitive technology service requests
  • Incident management: Connect teams across BHP to uncover and proactively manage patterns to improve services and to resolve issues affecting technology systems and services
  • Major incident management: Facilitate and coordinate cross-functional disaster recovery efforts following the resolution of major incidents to rapidly restore services
  • Technology service catalogue management:  Develop and review the accuracy of catalogue items for infrastructure issues to drive the efficient and timely delivery of critical service requests
