About the Role

Join the WA Iron Ore (WAIO) Leadership Team as Head of Technology WAIO and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of one of BHP’s most significant assets. In this influential position, you’ll be the strategic bridge between WAIO and BHP’s Global Technology function - driving innovation, aligning priorities, and ensuring technology solutions deliver real value to the Asset. Your leadership will enable seamless integration of global technology strategies while championing WAIO’s priorities, creating a powerful synergy that accelerates performance and unlocks new possibilities.

Reporting to the VP Technology Minerals Australia, your responsibilites will include:

  • Prioritise deployment and maintenance of WAIO technology and stable asset applications.
  • Ensure operational stability, availability, and performance of critical OT and projects across WAIO.
  • Own WAIO Technology strategy aligned with enterprise and global imperatives.
  • Develop roadmap to execute strategy and uplift WAIO Technology.
  • Provide thought leadership and manage WAIO’s digital pipeline for operational efficiency.
  • Lead teams in planning, prioritising, and implementing technology in an agile environment.
  • Integrate plans across WAIO and functions for safe, reliable, cost-effective tech operations.
  • Advocate for full Technical function capabilities in strategic decisions and resource allocation.
  • Apply agile frameworks and support consistent delivery.
  • Manage Technology Services support and allocate expertise to maintain service levels.
  • Develop and implement plans to resolve tech issues with clear objectives and timelines.
  • Collaborate across the organisation to align stakeholder needs and shared goals.
  • Integrate resource planning across projects considering team workloads and priorities.
  • Create contingency plans to mitigate risks, including cyber and IP protection.
  • Build strong relationships with Technical leaders to align strategy and operations.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, learning, openness to change, and reflection.

About You

You will have successfully delivered complex Technology projects and change programs, along with prior experience with Information and Operational Technology stacks including developing associated strategies and implementing operational best practice.

With a passion for innovation and sustainability, you are mindful of your customer to improve the experience and drive productivity.  You are a strategic thinker with a bias for execution, and you possess a strong commercial acumen to drive impactful business outcomes. Your previous experience in complex, matrix organisations will be advantageous and your ability to build relationships with a wide array of stakeholders will be critical. 

As a leader, you have had a proven track record in leading large diverse teams and your coaching and mentoring skills will be key strengths that you draw upon to build capability and positively impact culture.  Energetic and results-orientated, you work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple and interdependent deadlines. 

A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is required, will be highly regarded.
