About the role

This role provides leadership support and management for Fortescue Future Industries Health and Safety Management requirements in Australia East and New Zealand. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Influence leadership to deliver outstanding health, safety and process safety performance.
  • Set health, safety and process safety cultural leadership expectations and deliver the program to support this.
  • Drive ownership of risk management with leadership, to ensure fatality risk and major hazards are identified and controlled.
  • Challenge leadership to think about health, safety and process safety in ways that inspire a safer workplace.
  • Promote mental health wellbeing and create awareness around psychosocial hazards.
  • Provide guidance and create a local health, safety and process safety management system that complies with local legislative and Fortescue requirements.
  • Develop and implement of Emergency Response Plans aligned to Fortescue requirements.
  • Ensure incidents are reported, investigated and appropriate actions communicated and completed.
  • Ensure workers for Fortescue are inducted and trained appropriately to complete their tasks safely and to legislative requirements for the region.
  • Provide management over contractor activities to ensure they are working safely and looking after the health of their workers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Tertiary Qualification in Health & Safety or related discipline
  • +15 years’ experience in health & safety in heavy industry or resource industries.
  • Experience in health and safety contractor management, project management or construction management is favourable.
  • Some knowledge of Process Safety Engineering is essential.
  • Experience in managing health and safety teams.
  • Proven working experience in implementing Health & Safety initiatives or projects.
  • Track record of mentoring senior leaders & managers towards achieving health and safety organizational objectives.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects.
  • Strong computer literacy skills.
  • Experience in local legislation is considered essential.
