Health and Safety Officer – Queens Hydraulic Barrier Wall

Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth

As part of the Queens Hydraulic Barrier Wall (QHBW) leadership team, you will be responsible for assisting with the implementation and auditing of Safety Management Systems to ensure continual improvement in a dynamic mining operations environment. You will play an integral part in engaging with the site team to provide advice and guidance in achieving the objectives of the strategic plan for the project.

This role will provide a healthy remuneration package and will report to the Superintendent QHBW, on an 8:6 roster with a two-year fixed term contract.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provided the site team with coaching and mentoring, in order to achieve confidence and competence in safety compliance and assurance activities; through Field Leaderships (FL), Planned Task Observations (PTO) and Critical Control Monitoring (CCM)
  • Provide leadership to the QHBW contractor HSE representatives and ensure alignment between FMG and its contractors is achieved
  • Lead in the preparation and presentation of Health and Safety initiatives and promotional material for the project
  • Be proactive in identifying and managing risk through auditing processes, with a pragmatic approach to finding and implementing solutions
  • Provide assistance and guidance in the investigation of incidents, ensuring the correct process/escalation is followed
  • Liaise with line management, contractors, consultants, government bodies and the business, to ensure the QHBW project is aligned and compliant in all things Health & Safety

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant Health & Safety qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in an operational mining, construction or relevant project environment
  • Demonstrated experience in Risk Management, Safety Auditing and Data analysis - trending & reporting
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations
