We are seeking a passionate Health & Safety Superintendent to be part of a dynamic and motivated team reporting to the Health, Safety and Training Manager.

Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset.   

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

This role is pivotal to the ongoing improvement to the Safety culture and performance at Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW). The role will require you to:  •    Provide health and safety expertise to the site leadership team and operations; •    Continue supporting the safety performance and cultural journey at MTW; •    Strategically lead and enable the health and safety team; •    Manage the investigation process of serious incidents, developing strategies to effectively resolve workplace hazards; •    Ensure the Emergency Response team is operationally prepared to respond at all times;  •    Drive for continuous improvement to health and safety processes, identifying and implementing improvement changes in consultation with the site leadership team; •    Support provision of a safe and healthy working environment, which at minimum complies with the Yancoal Health and Safety systems, NSW WHS Act, NSW Coal Mines Act and other relevant legislation.

To succeed in this role, you will also display the following skills and attributes:  •    Tertiary qualification in an Occupational Health & Safety or Workplace Health & Safety (Min Cert IV) or similar •    Proven track record of leading a health and safety team •    Mining experience, preferably Open-Cut Coal Mining or Heavy Industry experience •    Strong leadership and influencing skills •    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills •    Strong knowledge of health and safety standards, legislation and risk management principles •    Certificate IV in training & assessment (desirable)
