Newcrest is seeking experienced and highly dedicated Health and Safety Advisors, to provide in-field OH&S support to delivery teams for the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project – a significant portfolio program of civil works execution; to safely deliver a major upgrade of the Tailings Dam for Australia’s largest gold mine at Cadia. 

These long-term site-based contract positions (2+ years) will be offered on a 12/9 roster, in Orange NSW.

Drive-In-Drive-Out (DIDO) arrangements will be offered where possible in consideration of anti-fatigue policies.

Operations near and far  

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Residential employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Employees have access to the area’s wide range of amenities, including a prominent health sector with a modern well-equipped regional hospital, excellent educational facilities, shopping, large selection of sport and recreation options, transport and other services such as childcare.

Who we’re looking for   

The successful candidates will be responsible for providing specialist in-field Health & Safety advice, assistance and support to all site leaders and personnel to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for the delivery of project milestones.

You will be accountable for assisting the HSEC team in the development and management of strategic Health and Safety framework for world class safety performance for the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project in accordance with Newcrest safety processes and procedures.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Provide specialist Health & Safety advice, assistance and support to all site leaders and personnel: conduct in-field safety reviews, facilitate project risk assessments, attend pre-start and toolbox meetings
  • Customer-facing liaison and collaboration with internal and contract partner stakeholders in-field to ensure high standards of OH&S performance and adopt a proactive approach to occupational health and safety issues
  • Conduct & or participate in ICAM incident investigations and WHS compliance audits
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements, company policies and practices
  • Providing specialist H&S advice, assistance and support to all site leaders and personnel
  • Facilitating toolbox meeting sessions across site and ensure current risk based topics are discussed

We are looking for a strong communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment. You’ll show drive and passionate enthusiasm in leading a high performing team.

You will also possess the following: 

  • Recognised qualification in Occupational Health and Safety / Health Safety & Environment (minimum level: Diploma / Certificate)
  • Proven in-field experience as Health & Safety Advisor (or similar), supporting mining / large-scale bulk earthmoving civil construction projects (eg: dams, roads, rail)
  • Demonstrated incident investigation experience (ICAM or TAP ROOT certification highly desirable). Compliance auditing experience preferred
  • Senior First Aid & Mental Health First Aid tickets desirable
  • Manual Drivers Licence – essential
  • Excellent communication, influencing, engagement and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, & MS Project
