About the role
We are looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support and deliver H&S services across the Utilities and Facilities division of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s business unit. This is a great opportunity for an experienced and collaborative health and safety professional to be part of the Rio Tinto HSEC Team.
This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis, FIFO from Perth on a 5 days on / 2 days off, 4 days on / 3 days off roster.
Reporting to the Superintendent Health & Safety, you will be required to work autonomously focusing on:
Developing and providing routine H&S information (e.g. safety statistics, incident information, risk analysis, educational material) to operational leaders.
Providing onsite support, upskilling and facilitation of incident investigations and risk assessments.
Partnering with operational leaders to support proactive management of key health and safety risks.
Delivering the annual H&S plan and supporting operational leaders improving safety maturity through key initiatives.
Supporting the roll out of fundamental H&S initiatives, training and coaching.
Provide trusted advice on health and safety matters to operational leaders in line with the Rio Tinto HSEQ Management System.
Coordination of site-based initiatives that promote the health and wellbeing of the workforce
Identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities in all areas of the Health and Safety function.
What you’ll bring
Must have relevant health and safety qualification or demonstrated experience working in an operational health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety
High level of integrity and values based decision making
Ability to work autonomously is essential
Strong engaging and influencing skills, with the ability to proactively support leaders and to think strategically across the business value chain
An ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities supporting multiple stakeholder groups
Excellent computer literacy including use of various reporting systems is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Adaptability, flexibility & a solutions based mind-set
Strong communication and analytical skills

Where you’ll be working
Based at Dampier, focusing on providing support to our stakeholders across Utilities/Facilities. Rio Tinto owns and operates an integrated portfolio of iron ore assets that include a world-class, integrated network of 16 mines, four independent port terminals, a 1,700 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure – all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand.
