About the role:

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Compliance Specialist at our Coppabella Moorvale Mine.  Our Coppabella Moorvale mine complex consists of two open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometers southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverised coal (LV-PCI) for export markets, with an extension in Greenfield stage due to start coal production early next year.

Reporting to the Health Safety & Training Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining the Mine Record Entry and providing guidance to site’s personnel to ensure compliance with legislative obligations and requirements of the Health & Safety Management System. You will be part of a small but dynamic team championing a strong health safety and training culture across the sites, embracing the diverse range of tasks that come with managing separate sites. Duties will include:

  • Responsible for maintenance of the Mine Record Entry.
  • Lead Appointment process and maintain the Management Structure for site.
  • Maintain SharePoint and document control process.
  • Ensuring incidents are investigated with actions closed out in a timely manner, then audited to ensure quality of data being captured.
  • SAP scheduling of actions, audits, Critical Control Verifications, Inspections etc.
  • Coaching and providing advice on compliance with all safety legislation and Peabody processes and procedures.
  • Coordination of safety audits.
  • Assist with Regulatory inspections and evidence gathering.
  • Assistance with capturing Safety Interactions, Hazard Reports, Critical Control Verifications and promoting compliance.
  • Initiate review of SHMS documents according to schedule and assist with the SWI Project with each department.
  • Submit all reporting requirements, weekly, monthly, quarterly, Corporate and Regulatory.
  • Record keeping of hygiene monitoring requirements and subsequent action plans.
  • Assist the Contract Manager with Contractor compliance.
  • Assist with Management of Change process.
  • Assist with raising Purchase Orders, cost reviews and HST budget.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information within the HST team, and work collaboratively within the team to ensure each can work to their full potential.
  • Ability to generate reports, accurate data entry, preparation of meetings and action items.
  • Providing a range of administrative tasks to support the HST team.
  • Assist with onboarding of personnel to site for IT access, OSTE access, database access etc.
  • Assist Key Stakeholders with Technical & Report Writing.

The lifestyle: This position is offered on a 9 day fortnight (Monday to Friday, Monday to Thursday) roster and can allow for a residential (Moranbah or Nebo), DIDO or FIFO lifestyle.  Employees living residentially may have access to a $15,000 housing allowance and may have the ability to salary sacrifice up to 50% of rental payments.

About you:

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining industry. 
  • Thorough knowledge of Coal Mining legislation and its application to the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS)
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety management systems, auditing and incident reporting and investigation. RIIWHS601 (G7) desired, along with ICAM Lead desirable
  • Must have SAP and SharePoint experience, Pegasus desirable
  • Desirable understanding of risk management principles holding the RIIRIS601 (G3) Risk Management qualification, or RIIRIS402 (G2)
  • Possess a strong commitment to behavioural safety and cultural change initiatives.
