About the role: We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Superintendent at our Coppabella Moorvale Mine. Our Coppabella Moorvale mine complex consists of two open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometers southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverised coal (LV-PCI) for export markets, with an extension in Greenfield stage due to start coal production early next year.
Reporting to the Health Safety & Training Manager, you will be responsible for driving safety performance, while providing guidance to both mine site’s personnel to ensure compliance with legislative obligations and requirements of the Health & Safety/SAWOL Management Systems. You will be part of a small but dynamic team championing a strong health safety and training culture across the sites, embracing the diverse range of tasks that come with managing separate sites. Duties will include:
- Leading a culture that promotes safety as a primary driver.
- Delivering and monitoring safety and health strategies.
- Ensuring incidents are investigated with actions closed out in a timely manner.
- Coaching and providing advice on compliance with all safety legislation and Peabody SAWOL processes and procedures.
- Facilitating risk assessments and safety audits.
- Ensuring activities on site are carried out in accordance with the Safety and Health Management System requirements.
- Maintaining the safety and health system to ensure compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Conducting analysis on safety and health data and compiling relevant reports.
- Assisting with contractor management and change management processes.
- Coordination of hygiene monitoring requirements and subsequent action plans.
The lifestyle: This position is offered on a 9 day fortnight (Monday to Friday, Monday to Thursday) roster and can allow for a residential (Moranbah or Nebo), DIDO or FIFO lifestyle. Employees living residentially may have access to a $15,000 housing allowance and may have the ability to salary sacrifice up to 50% of rental payments.
About you:
The successful candidate will have a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline, along with the following:
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining industry.
- Thorough understanding of risk management principles holding the RIIRIS601 (G3) Risk Management qualification, or RIIRIS402 (G2) as a minimum
- Thorough knowledge of Coal Mining legislation and its application to the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS)
- Extensive knowledge of health and safety management systems, auditing and incident reporting and investigation. RIIWHS601 (G7) desired, along with ICAM Lead required
- Desirable Cert IV Training and Assessment (TAE40116) qualification and S1,2,3 Mining Supervisor competency
- Possess a strong commitment to behavioural safety and cultural change initiatives.
