Health & Safety Superintendent

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Superintendent  at our Wilpinjong mine.  Our Wilpinjong mine is an open-cut mine located 58 kilometers northeast of Mudgee producing a high quality thermal coal for export and domestic markets.

Reporting to the Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for driving safety performance while providing support and advice to the Wilpinjong team on all facets of safety, health and training activities.  You will be part of a dynamic team championing a strong safety and health culture across the site, along with the following duties:

• Comprehensive management of multiple levels of our SHMS, policies and plans to ensure compliance with WHS and Mines Legislation;
• Develop and document safety systems in line with site risks and in consultation with stakeholders;
• Across the business, build strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect to ensure the professionalism of safety is reliable and acknowledged.
• Provide support and advice to assist managers and supervisors so they can monitor that all operations are conducted safely to provide a safe working environment for all workers whilst complying with company standards and government legislation.
• Develop and implements a tiered audit program for the site. 
• Provide strategic health and safety advice and support to all levels of the operation to assist in maintaining and improving safety standards (breadth and depth of safety knowledge);
• Identify areas for cultural and systems improvement, develop plans and lead that improvement initiative;
• Establish, maintain and continually improve the Safety Management System including but not limited to:
• Assist in the development of the department Operating Plan (including Operating and Capital Budgets).

About You:

Critical to your success will be:

• Does require a minimum Certificate IV In Work Health and Safety and Certificate IV In Training & Assessment qualifications but does prefer a Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or related discipline
• Return to Work Coordinator Certificate and
• Root cause incident investigation facilitation . At least 3 years direct experience in a H&S role with ideally 5 years in mining industry.
• Advanced understanding of safety management systems and relevant legislation.
• Extensive risk management experience;
• Ability to liaise with workers’ compensation insurers and other interested parties to oversee rehabilitation of workers, in line with injury management requirements;
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills and the ability to engage with all levels of the business in a professional manner.
