Health, Safety Training Specialist

About the role: We are currently seeking a Health, Safety & Training Specialist at our Wambo Mine. Our Wambo mine complex is a combined open-cut and underground mine located 30kms west of Singleton that produce metallurgical and thermal coal for export and domestic markets. Reporting to the Health, Safety & Training Manager, you will be responsible for driving health, safety and training outcomes in line with the sites HST strategy. You will be part of a dynamic team who promote a continuous improvement culture.
Duties will include:
- Proactive approach to managing safety on site and actively demonstrating safety leadership
- Design, develop, prepare and conduct health and safety training
- Identifying safety training needs on site and researching appropriate solutions
- Contributing to work procedure and documentation development and review
- Monitor, identify trends and report on health and safety to improve overall effectiveness
- Conduct accident and incident investigations and propose new systems of work or equipment
- Conduct organisational development and effectiveness analysis, recording and reporting
- Assist in the Injury Management and Worker’s Compensation process
- Consult and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure the site is compliant with training scheme requirements
- Ensure the onsite training systems are maintained to a high level of accuracy
- Oversee the site induction process, site training calendar and designated training days
The lifestyle: This position is offered on a Monday to Friday roster with one rostered day off per month and can allow for a residential lifestyle. The position is suited to a residential lifestyle in nearby Singleton or the Hunter Valley/Newcastle surrounds.
About You:
- Relevant qualification, Diploma in OH&S or equivalent
- Certificate IV TAE
- Previous experience with RTW
- Previous experience in a Health, Safety and or Training position, ideally in underground coal mining or heavy industry environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently on projects
- Uncompromising commitment to safety
