ABOUT GEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a permanent position on a 7:7 day shift roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.
As the Health Specialist, you will provide medical care, governance , support and guidance in the execution of Injury Management activities including but not limited to acute injury/illness management, health surveillance/assessments, fitness for work assessments, return to work plans, COVID-19 testing and support, and emergency medical treatment.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Provide frontline acute injury/illness management for employees and contracting partners in conjunction with Emergency Services Officers, Physiotherapists (work and non-work related)
- Data analysis and health promotion to promote safety and injury/illness prevention
- Review and advise on pre-employment medical results, functional fitness reviews, drug and alcohol testing and manage health surveillance (ECG, audio, spirometry, periodic medicals)
- Health commander for GEMCO for all confirmed GEMCO incidents
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Solid clinical experience in Emergency Management and response – as a Registered Nurse or Paramedic
- Experience working in mine/remote site health care and clinical facilities management
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with high level of English communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated capability to work effectively independently or in a team environment
- Current and valid Australian drivers’ licence
Qualifications for this position are:
- Degree in Nursing or Paramedicine
- Qualifications in Injury Management and Return to Work programs
- Certificate – collect specimens for drugs and abuse testing
- Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) as a registered Nurse or Paramedic
