About the Role 

Newman Operations is part of Western Australian Iron Ore and consists of two mining sites in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, on the traditional lands of the Nylyaparli people.

Comprising of Newman East and Newman West, Newman Operations accounts for about 78 million tonnes in total iron ore production. Newman Operations is part of an 85:15 joint venture between BHP, and Mitsui and ITOCHU.  

We are seeking the immediate assistance of highly skilled and experienced Diesel Fitters  for our Newman West Field Maintenance teams.   

Our skilled and experienced Maintenance Technician's work at the closely located Mount Whaleback mine site, which at more than 5 kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide is the biggest single pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world and with this comes some very impressive and large-scale machinery.

In your role your primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Preventative maintenance, repairs, attending breakdowns and running complex diagnostics/testing and fault finding of mobile fleet (specifically diggers and drills) of specialist diesel machinery & equipment of significant scale.
• Identifying and rectifying faults during inspections and following specific maintenance programs
• Daily inspections on Mobile Fleet
• Initiating updates to work procedures to ensure they are accurate and relevant to equipment 
• Providing input into root cause analysis and subsequent resolution of issues affecting equipment reliability
• Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and assist in the implementing of the new initiatives in a constructive way
• Demonstrating a focus on safety, achievement and team engagement in all aspects of work

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

• Australian Recognised Heavy Mechanical/Vechice Fitter Qualifications
• A high level of technical experience with Diggers and Drills
• Technically/mechanically sound skills with Leibherr, Cat, Cummins and/or Epiroc is highly sought after
• Demonstrated diagnostics and breakdown experience with ideally both trucks & ancillary 
• Dogging, Rigging and Forklift Licenses are desirable
• A commitment to safety, quality and attention to detail and procedure 
• Computer literacy and/or experience in 1SAP
• Safety first and always mentality
• The ability to work to deadlines and remain calm under pressure
• A teamwork mentality to achieve result

FIFO 8:6 7:7  *now available* to Newman West from Perth or Busselton with Field Maintenance!

With this role you have the choice of either opting for residentially based position in the heart of Pilbara’s Newman or FIFO: We are offering to fly out to Newman West on a brand new fly-in fly-out roster from Perth or Busselton to Newman  of 8:6 / 7:7!
