About the Role
Through BHP’s Future Fit Academy we are providing a nationally standardised curriculum for trade apprenticeships and maintenance traineeships. The first two campuses have been established at existing BHP warehouse and repair facilities in Welshpool in Perth and Mackay in Queensland. They include virtual reality simulation training and full mobile equipment and fixed plant workshops.
BHP Operations Services (OS) is looking for a High Risk Trainer Assessor (TA) reporting to the Superintendent Infrastructure. High Risk trainers are a key to the success of our business to assist our Execution teams to have the capability to deliver High Risk work safely. The High Risk TA will also provide input into the development of key operational standards in support of the coaching provided to the Execution team. The purpose of this role is to support the building and sustaining of consistently high levels of operational capability and performance.
The roster will be: 8 days/6 off; 1 day shift/7 afternoons/6 off.
Your key deliverables include, but are not limited to:
- Working with Execution leaders, particularly Supervisors, to help build the required capability within their teams;
- Supporting ongoing development and implementation of the Operations Services Mastery Program, particularly in relation to Production Operations;
- Supporting the development and implementation of Production Standards and related resources including upskilling resources and verification tools;
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to develop resources and methods for upskilling front line teams to work consistently to the established Production Standards;
- Carrying out performance verifications against Production Standards at the frontline including coaching others in assessment and verification processes;
- Continuous monitoring of Production crews’ performance and initiating the necessary input or support to ensure Production Standards are achieved and maintained;
- Encouraging and leading productive collaboration across the Production and Training teams through informal processes as well as formal forums and routines.

About You
We are looking for individuals that have experience in influencing and empowering others to achieve higher performance. Your commitment to making a real difference to the performance of our people and business will be highly regarded.
Additionally, you will be, or have:
- High risk qualifications: High Risk Work License (HRWL); Forklift (LF); Elevated Work Platform (WP); Dogging (DG); Rigging Basics (RB) or above desirable; working safely at heights; enter and work in confined space with gas test atmospheres; overhead travelling crane; firefighting; HLTAID011-Provide First Aid. Unit of Competency (UOC) qualifications desirable, but can be achieved once applicant successful;
- TAE Cert IV, Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN), design and development up to date;
- A strong background in Mining Production Operations;
- A strong track record as a leader or high performer in Production Operations (operating, supervising, training). Exposure at Supervisor or Superintendent Level will be highly regarded;
- Exposure to, or have participated in the OS Mastery Program will be highly regarded;
- A skilled coach and adviser with the ability to maximize the effectiveness of upskilling activities in the workplace;
- Strong communication skills and proven ability to engage and build relationships across multiple layers of the organisation from senior management to frontline leaders and technicians;
- Very good organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and work both independently and as part of a team;
- Good experience and skills in the use of technology in managing work processes, data capture and performance reporting;
- A good understanding and skills in process improvement work;
- Good experience in working both autonomously and as part of a high performance team dedicated to continuous improvement. Your diversity of thought, energy and practical experience will be highly valued;
- Exposure to the BHP Operating System (BOS) would be advantageous.
