Macmahon has an exciting opportunity for a HR Business Partner to join the Project team at Byerwen. Reporting to the Superintendent People - Surface and Civil, this role would suit a HR Business Partner, with demonstrated experience partnering with the operation’s leadership to identify and implement people initiatives and solutions. This is a 5:2 DIDO position that commences Monday morning and wraps up by early Friday afternoon.

With over 55 years of experience, Macmahon is a mining contractor with a unique capability of offering its clients surface, underground and mining support services.

Byerwen coal mine is located approximately 20kms west of Glenden in the northern Bowen Basin and is Macmahon's largest project on the east coast. Macmahon undertakes all mining operations at the Byerwen Project, including drilling, blast design, load and haul, haul road maintenance and mobile plant maintenance. Since commencing on site in 2017 Macmahon has been awarded two contract extensions, with the latest running until FY2026!

Full camp facilities - including a permanent room and meals are provided.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with stakeholders to advise on and influence business decisions 
  • Identify and implement ‘best for business’ People solutions that are aligned with business objectives
  • Partner with stakeholders to facilitate / participate in workplace investigations and disciplinary processes, ensuring statutory reporting obligations are adhered to 
  • Lead People change management initiatives
  • Manage complex employee queries
  • Facilitate key actions aligned with the delivery of the Industrial Relations, Organisational Development and Remuneration & Benefits initiatives 
  • Leverage key HRIS tools to deliver and support People activities and encourage leaders to use technology to increase efficiency and drive business results 
  • Analyse and interpret Macmahon employee data and key People metrics to identify workforce trends, understand and respond to workforce needs, including identifying and implementing mitigation strategies 

The ideal candidate: 

  • Well established experience in a similar role, preferably within a contract mining environment 
  • Bachelor Degree in Human Resources or equivalent
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of HR/ER practices and employment legislation
  • Experienced managing workplace investigations 
  • Objective with sound judgement, decision-making and influencing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence
  • Ability to undertake site travel as required 
  • SuccessFactors experience would be advantageous
