The Opportunity - HR Business Partner – IR & ER focus – Permanent role – Based in Collie, South-West of WA

The purpose of the HR Business Partner role is to provide strategic support to business leaders in making effective people decisions across the employee lifecycle including building strong teams, influencing industrial relations and employee relations and driving the South32 culture.
Located in the picturesque south-west and Peel regions of Western Australia, South32 Worsley Alumina is on a journey to become the world’s leading Alumina producer where our 1500 workforce value the lifestyle that Worsley Alumina has to offer.
Our integrated Bauxite Mine, Alumina Refinery and Port Operation is creating the essential products needed for a sustainable low carbon future.
This role will be offered on a Permanent basis.
Location
This role will be based at our Worsley Alumina Refinery which is a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury (35 minutes) and other nearby scenic communities.
As there is no accommodation on site, you will be required to drive in, drive out on a daily basis. Employees ideally live within an hour’s drive of Collie.
Accountabilities
Primary responsibilities are to:
• Provide professional, business-focused human resource service to a designated client group
• Work in partnership with lead teams to identify the people implications of strategic and business plans and other developments
• Provide high quality industrial and employee relations advice and services, managing and resolving issues as they arise
• Conduct negotiations dealing with industrial relations matters, including Enterprise Bargaining negotiations and industrial advocacy services where required
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance, partnering with Employee Relations function
• Select, develop, coach and mentor employees – build experience and capability by creating meaningful development opportunities
About You
• Relevant degree and appropriate experience (preferable in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations or Law)
• Significant experience in industrial relations with a sound knowledge of industrial and employee relations theory, principles, policies and practices within a heavy industry context
• Significant demonstrated experience in leading enterprise agreement negotiations
• In depth knowledge of relevant employment legislation, awards and agreements
• Excellent negotiation, influencing and persuasion skills. Able to challenge people, situations and current thinking effectively and creatively.
• Skilled and credible in advising others on empowering people management.
