About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Health and Safety to join the Sustaining Capital Division’s Health and Safety Team within Iron Ore to provide positive leadership to a team of health and safety professionals, support and advise Sustaining Capital leaders, partner with our contract partners to deliver health and safety outcomes and facilitate the standardisation of Rio Tinto Health and Safety processes and systems.

Leading on the frontline is one of the most important jobs in our business and comes with a huge amount of responsibility. We need you to motivate, inspire and keep our people safe and well.

Your demonstrated ability to engage, connect and positively influence key stakeholders at all organizational levels will play a critical part to the effectiveness in this role. A truly collaborative position that will see you partnering with the Division’s leadership team and our contract partners, to drive operational discipline through standardisation and rapid replication of health and safety initiatives, supporting leaders to operationalise the Health and Safety Management System and delivering to the health and safety strategy.

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualified in health, safety, or related field
  • Respect for others and an all-inclusive mindset
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A background in Construction – within a leadership Health & Safety role
  • A drive to create a respectful, inclusive and diverse work environment
  • Experience and passion as a people leader who can influence, motivate and be confident in effectively leading, mentoring and coaching team members as well as interfacing with senior leaders and contracting partners
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Health and Safety professional in an operating environment
  • Demonstrated experience in working with many contracting partners to deliver sound health and safety outcomes
  • Exceptional organisation and delegation skills and experience working in an environment with a large span of control
  • Understanding of new WA Workplace Health and Safety legislation and its implementation in a contracting environment
  • Current driver’s license

Where you’ll be working

This role will be offered FIFO from Perth to our Inland operations where you will operate within our Iron Ore assets. Your roster will be 5 days on, 2days off, 4 days on, 3 days off (9-day fortnight).
