We are looking to appoint an HSE Advisor in this mid-level role to support and deliver H&S services across the Technical Development team. This is a permanent full time role based in Bundoora, Victoria. Primarily working in Bundoora, this role will require travel across Australian and international assets on an ad hoc basis.

Reporting to the HSE Business Partner Rio Tinto Projects working in a flexible supportive environment within the Technical Development team, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Promote a positive safety culture that includes active participation by employees and contractors which supports teamwork, safe decision making and a culture of care
  • Engage and support employee and contractor participation in health and safety programs\Providing professional advice, influencing, and coaching the workforce to promote continual development and improvement in safety culture
  • Participate, and provide coaching in quality safety interactions and leadership in field activities
  • Ensuring risk/hazard registers are maintained
  • Facilitating a consistent approach to risk management ensuring workers are trained and using risk management tools, including Take 5’s and JHA’s
  • Coordination and facilitation of risk assessments, incident investigations and internal audits
  • Support and lead strategic health and safety projects and initiatives
  • Developing and delivering HSE training
  • Work independently or as part of a diverse team
  • Developing and reviewing HSE safe work instructions
  • Identify and make recommendations concerning HSE issues
  • Inform and educate employees and contractors concerning health and safety requirements and standards

What you’ll bring

Our ideal candidate will be a strong team player with excellent communication skills, who is highly organised, self-motivated, and driven to make improvements. They will have the ability to influence and coach others, manage difficult situations calmly, be flexible and possess the following qualifications/skills/experience:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Undergraduate Degree in Science, Engineering OR a Post Graduate degree in Health & Safety, Hazard & Risk Management
  • Up to 5 years experience in a field role as a HSE professional (Manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Mining)
  • Demonstrated experience in Risk Management processes
  • Sound knowledge of Safety Management Systems, Legislation and codes of practice
  • Ability to communicate and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • Willing and able to travel to other Rio Tinto operations
  • Must have working rights for Australia - International relocation not provided

 As a preference, you will have:

  • Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety or Tertiary qualifications in a related field.
