We are looking for a HSE Studies Lead to work alongside a dedicated global studies team on the development of projects (Brownfield, Greenfield, and Closure) to help optimise project outcomes to support asset growth.

Reporting to the Senior HSE Business Partner Projects and working in a collaborative community within HSEC Systems, you will:

  • Develop and implement the HSEC in Design specification and support KPI programme for Rio Tinto Project facility designs
  • Ensure HSEC Design requirements are incorporated across Order of Magnitude and Pre-Feasibility study work for Rio Tinto Projects
  • Manage and monitor HSE Risks across all studies during OoM and PFS phases to ensure studies are completed to identify and eliminate hazards
  • Participating in engineering design review activities and verifies HSEC in Design requirements have been incorporated into each stage of the design
  • In collaboration with Product Groups, AoE’s & CoE’s, incorporate anticipated regulatory approval conditions and lessons learnt from completed projects into facility designs
  • Establishing an assurance schedule and perform assurance activities with design contractors
  • Coordinating Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard Observation (HAZOP) workshops for all design activities
  • Assisting with the preparation and implementation of HSE training requirements specific to design
  • Coach, mentor and guide other HSE professionals across projects to support knowledge and understanding for HSE studies

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Demonstrated experience and education within Safety / Health, Environment in Projects, and engineering design
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of large-scale projects
  • Understand of Safety in Design (SiD) principles and incorporating SiD into Design process
  • Understand the implementation and application of various risk assessment techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, translating technical information for the target audience
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, and confidence to operate at all levels of the business
  • Experience in working alongside large and diverse global teams
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with local, national, and regional stakeholder groups
