About the role

We are looking for an HSE Superintendent to lead a multi-disciplinary team of HSE professionals to support the Ranger Rehabilitation Project.

In the role of HSE Superintendent you will be involved in developing HSE strategies and plans and you will be the primary point of contact for HSE matters on the project. This role is a great opportunity to work closely with project leadership and contractors on an exciting project. Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will:

  • Lead a team of HSE professionals across the disciplines of safety, process safety, injury management, emergency response, training, and environment.
  • Develop and implement a safety maturity (safety culture) continuous improvement plan
  • Support the project leadership team in planning for safe execution of packages or work
  • Oversee the HSE onboarding requirements for new contractors
  • Oversee suitable risk assessment and analysis processes
  • Lead incident investigations and oversee the investigation processes on the project
  • Complete periodic HSE performance reporting and communicate insights to the project leadership team
  • Maintain the business resilience response plan, coordinate emergency exercises and support emergency response on the project
  • Be responsible for site security
  • Work closely with the Environment Specialist on strategies to manage waste, weeds and feral animals on the rehabilitation project area
  • Engage with safety and environment regulators on a regular basis
  • Support the design and execution of the process safety program
  • Oversee the management of HSE systems and tools to support the project
  • Serve in a back to back capacity with the HSE Manager in regard to attendance of scheduled meetings with project leadership team

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification is HSE
  • Extensive experience in a HSE leadership role in a project environment
  • Experience in managing environment control process on a remote site
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary group and in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Strong understanding of Safety Regulations and Act
  • Valid Driver’s License

Where you’ll be working

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto its major shareholder. ERA has mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory since 1980. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, and is surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park.

Mining at Ranger ceased in November 2012 and since then, Ranger has been processing ore from stockpiles.

The role is either Darwin based on a Bus in Bus out arrangement between Ranger Mine and Darwin, or locally based residential in Jabiru. Subsidised housing arrangements for Jabiru residents will be included.
