About the Role

We are currently seeking a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Superintendent to join our team supporting our Smelter Operations at Kalgoorlie / Kambalda. Working on a 5/2 roster and living residentially in Kalgoorlie, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to lead a high caliber team of Professionals in delivering excellence in HSE. Flexible work options will be considered.

As an integral member of the site leadership team and the primary “shopfront” for HSE matters at the Operation, in this role you will:

  • Provide direct leadership to a team of professionals across the disciplines of Health, Safety, Environment, providing support across the Kalgoorlie Operation.
  • Work to maintain and grow an engaging, supportive and inclusive team culture;
  • Build capability within operational leaders to foster a HSE culture of curiosity, with a bias toward upholding of standards and encouragement of continuous improvement through positive tension;
  • Support and govern local implementation of HSE Standards and the Nickel West and Minerals Australia H,S,E Management Systems;
  • Execute and continuously improve HSE programs in line with the Nickel West HSE business plan;
  • Champion the BHP field leadership program throughout the operation; and
  • Interface with other HSE sub-functions and BHP business functional teams to coordinate delivery of services from these teams that contribute to effective HSE risk management for the operation

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience in leading teams and proven ability to create an engaging, supportive & inspiring culture
  • Tertiary degree qualified in health, safety, environment, or related discipline such as science or business;
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving proactive HSE outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills
  • Forward thinking and proactive work style
  • A proven ability to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans, and management of complex and competing priorities; and
  • An advanced understanding of HSE Management systems and relevant Western Australian legislation.

Location

The Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter is located 14 kilometres south of the city of Kalgoorlie–Boulder and

approximately 600 kilometres east of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Kalgoorlie is a thriving regional centre with a prospering local sporting community, multiple schooling options, modern shopping facilities and a wide variety of housing options – with vibrant rural landscapes within driving distance. To continue to support the community in which we operate, this role will be residential however relocation support will be provided to assist those that choose to relocate to the region.
