About the role

We are looking for a Health Safety Environment (HSE) Systems Administrator to join the Health, Safety and Environment team in providing support for Rio Tinto Weipa’s Bauxite mines. The primary purpose of the role will be to support the application of HSE systems and tools to help the Functional and Operational leaders effectively deliver HSE outcomes.

The Rio Tinto Health, Safety and Environment team (HSE) provides leadership on policies, setting and maintaining standards, developing strategies, implementing tools and support across the business. The HSE function is core to our business so we can ensure a healthy and safe workplace.

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, analytical HSE systems administrator to contribute to the development and implementation of standardised HSE systems. Reporting to the HSE Business Partner and working in a collaborative & exciting environment within the Weipa HSE team, you will be:

  • Responsible for Weekly, Monthly, Annual HSE reporting
  • Supporting & developing capability of leaders and HSE team members in RT safety systems through effective coaching.
  • Creating Purchase requisitions
  • Assisting the HSE Team with ad hoc tasks/projects
  • Management of CLASSIC Document Control including intranet upload of controlled documents and reporting of overdue documents to leaders
  • Assisting with data uploads and bookings for Occ Health.
  • Supporting assurance programs (first party, business conformance and other as required).
  • Providing high level support for data quality control processes, general HSE tools and processes.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Strong stakeholder engagement with finely tuned administration skills
  • Proven experience using SAP, RTBS, SharePoint, Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to provide H&S advice and communicate effectively across all levels of site
  • Ability to be flexible and proactive
  • Good time management and the desire to work in a team environment
  • A commitment to the Safety of yourself and your team

It will also be beneficial if you have: 

  • Exposure to HSE systems such as CRM, RTBS and Change management.
  • Experience using Power Bi
  • Proven experience with document control

Where you’ll be working

Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tonnes of bauxite.

Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.

The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
