Pit N Portal have a unique opportunity within our Underground Mining Division for a Health Safety, Environment & Training (HSEQT) Superintendent supporting the WA region. 

Initially working FIFO on an 8 & 6 site-based roster, this role will become Perth based after approximately six-months, working a Monday to Friday week out of our new Osborne Park Office, with regular travel to site included. 

Reporting to the General Manager for HSEQT, the position will support the Project Managers and their teams by leading improvements in HSET performance, through the provision of passionate and proactive advice and hands-on assistance. This role will also be pivotal in championing and driving a ‘safety first, safety foremost’ mindset and culture, and lead by example and from the front in this regard.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coach, train and provide expert advice on HSEQT activities to managers, supervisors, and the greater business 
  • Support, mentor and develop the site based HSEQT Teams
  • Actively support the development and maintenance of sites HSE&T Management Systems, and monitor compliance through audits and inspections
  • Undertake regular analysis and reporting of HSEQT metrics to the business to communicate progress against plans and key objectives
  • Provide hands-on assistance in the implementation of HSEQT processes
  • Lead incident investigations, compile reports, and ensure corrective actions are communicated effectively, and support the implementation of actions within the agreed time frame
  • Ensure all non-conformances or improvement opportunities identified in audits are reviewed and appropriate actions implemented 
  • Develop, review, update, and deliver training packages including assessment and recommendations of development needs
  • Assisting with project start-up and monitoring ongoing compliance through audits and inspections
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships, through consultation, collaboration, and engagement with relevant stakeholders
  • Support managers on a range of HSEQT issues, and equip them with the appropriate tools and knowledge to effectively lead and manage their people and to encourage safe behaviours and a positive, proactive attitude towards safety management

Required skills / experience & attributes:

  • A genuine passion and enthusiasm for Health, Safety & Training in the workplace
  • Possess high-level knowledge, as well as practical hands-on experience in a Health, Safety & Training role, with a minimum three years of experience in an underground safety role 
  • Qualifications in Health, Safety and/or Environment, as well as a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
  • Certified in Workplace Auditing and Workplace Investigations – iCAM, Tap Root or equivalent
  • Hold a valid Manual Drivers Licence
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge and understanding of current safety legislation, with the ability to discuss, influence and effectively apply these in the workplace
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to build collaborative working relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Strong computer skills & literacy, particularly within the MS Office Suite & HSE Management Systems, as well as being proficient in report writing
  • You are strategic, analytical and innovative, with solid problem-solving skills and you are confident and comfortable making informed decisions with the team
  • Strong at multi-tasking and prioritising tasks and ensuring you see them through to completion
  • You possess a customer-service focused, can-do attitude 
  • You are a hands-on, solutions-orientated, self-starter with high-energy and the ability to lead and motivate a team to consistently deliver high-quality outcomes
  • You have demonstrated experience driving cultural change around safety, as well as improving HSE&T capability across multiple sites
  • Once the role becomes Perth based, you can accommodate regular travel to site
