We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia.  Managed by Yancoal, Premier Coal is the leading coal producer in Western Australia.  Operating an open cut coal mine near Collie in the South West of WA, the operation produces coal for the domestic market with contracts to 2030.  

About the Role

The HST Advisor will be responsible for supporting all Departments in encouraging a safe work environment for all employees and contractors on site and to ensure Premier Coal’s obligations to our people and to the legislative framework are met through a primary focus on the Mine Safety Management System.

  • Maintain compliance with Premier Coal’s Mine Safety Management System and associated legislative requirements
  • Provide support to work teams and personnel to ensure safety risks are managed and work is completed safely so that everyone goes home safely.
  • Play an active role in all incident investigations to ensure the root causes are identified and where applicable, work practices adjusted accordingly in a timely manner.

Skills and Experience

  • Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 and associated regulations and how they pertain to individual obligations.
  • Proven risk management experience.
  • Previous experience working within a safety role preferably within the mining industry.
  • Experience in conducting incident investigations, analysis and supporting supervisors to continuously improve investigation outcomes. 
  • Recognised qualification in occupational health and safety or relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with regulatory bodies and senior personnel in relations to health, safety culture, safety systems compliance and associated matters.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, including strong dispute resolution skills.
