About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional candidate to boost the conceptual and numerical groundwater modelling capability of the WAIO Water Planning team. Our mission is to provide timely, fit for purpose, technically sound and high-quality products and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
The groundwater modelling team are the end users of an extensive (and growing) database of groundwater data and related information. Our goal is to use this data in innovative ways to push forward our understanding of the groundwater systems in which we operate. The role would expand the capacity and capability of the groundwater modelling team, ideally to allow for more high-end, in-house, numerical modelling and uncertainty analysis.
The role requires a very high attention to detail, willingness to make mistakes, learn from them, and then try again - you will be encouraged and supported to do this in order to find breakthroughs in thinking. We would welcome someone who challenges how we think, and, at the same time, who welcomes constructive feedback in return.
Excellent communication skills are a key part of this role. We spend a significant amount of time compiling data and preparing high quality written and visual narratives. We do this so that we can document and communicate what we find concisely, with clarity, and to a host of different stakeholders.
The role will be based at BHP’s corporate office in the Perth CBD. Site travel is minimal.
About You
- You will have extensive experience in constructing, using and critiquing groundwater conceptual and numerical models. You are able to communicate complicated numerical modelling concepts to a non-modelling audience with effectiveness and ease
- You will be happy working on your own and part of a small, inclusive, team. You are adaptable and try to bring a growth mindset to whatever you do
- Tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology, Geoscience, Engineering or Environmental Science, ideally with post graduate study/qualifications in Hydrogeology (or related discipline), although this is not essential
- You have extensive experience in MODFLOW, and experience in Python and FloPy (this would be advantageous but not critical)
