About the role 

Our Resource Development division provides support to and sustains our Pilbara iron ore operations through the delivery of orebody knowledge that ensures resources are developed in time, future value opportunities are identified and developed, and that tenure remains secure. The Hydrogeology team is responsible for providing the technical advice and direction necessary to mitigate water-related risks and create opportunities across our Pilbara operations, from concept to feasibility studies, implementation, and closure.

A unique opportunity now exists for a suitably qualified and experienced SpecialistHydrogeologist to join our Hydrogeology Department. The role will be required to utilise technical expertise forming part of the study team developing the Rhodes Ridge greenfields deposits.

Reporting directly to the Superintendent for relevant Pilbara Hub, the Specialist Hydrogeologist will be responsible for delivery of water related investigations to improve RTIO’s hydrogeological knowledge base and facilitate future expansion projects while sustaining ongoing mining operations.    

The role will also require the development of innovative groundwater management strategies to effectively mitigate dewatering/water supply related risks to key environmental receptors within the deposit area. The specialist position will manage a diverse array of activities spanning technical hydrogeology analyses, reporting, drilling design, studies and approval support.

The role demands a practical approach to technical problems, an understanding of risk-based assessments, and an ability to work proactively within multi-discipline teams.  A positive ‘can do’ attitude to achieve results is highly regarded. 

Working a Perth based 5 days on, 2 off roster, you will:

  • Supporting and mentoring a small team of Hydrogeologists;
  • Analysing hydrogeological data, providing conceptual inputs to numerical models, systems and environmental process; 
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Developing water management strategies to meet ongoing operations, approvals and study requirements; 
  • Developing technical reports to support water management strategies and environmental approvals;
  • Providing in-field technical, safety and project management oversight of hydrogeological field programmes; and
  • Developing scopes of work to design and define dewatering, reinjection, water supply, and monitoring networks.

What you’ll bring    

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant Hydrogeology or Geosciences field (post-grad qualifications in hydrogeology advantageous);
  • The ability to engage effectively and collaboratively with a diverse range of internal and external partners; Previous experience in Consulting and/or Operational Mining environments will be considered favourably;Commitment to health and safety and promoting a positive team behaviour / supportive culture; and

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a dynamic team environment;

  • Unrestricted ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.

This role is based in Perth at our Central Park office, with travel to our iron ore operations in the Pilbara as required.
