About the Role

We are currently looking for Hydrogeologist to join the WAIO Water Stewardship and Approvals team within our Water Planning team in Perth. In this role you will use your technical expertise to maintain and secure access to below water table resources, through hydrogeological impact assessment, eco-hydrological knowledge development, hydrological data management and compliance.

As a key member of the Water Planning team you will play an instrumental role in developing world-class water management practices that align with BHPs Water Stewardship position. This role will involve supporting mines, studies and projects with licensing due diligence and advice, developing applications and maintaining existing licenses.    

To achieve this you will need the following:

  • Have exposure to water management and experience working with the WA approvals and licensing framework. 
  • Clearly communicate water stewardship and approvals considerations for stakeholders including management, mine planning and environmental teams
  • Deliver approvals and licensing products including impact assessments, management plans and annual reports aligned to mine planning critical path and business risk
  • Support integration of water stewardship and approvals activity into business processes and systems
  • Identify long-term strategic risks associated with water licensing and approvals and develop work plans and controls to manage the risks.
  • Plan and support regional water management plans and groundwater operating strategies
  • Design and deliver monitoring plans and reporting in alignment with regulatory obligations, risk management and internal BHP reporting requirements including consideration of environmental triggers and thresholds.  

About You

  • Degree in Geoscience, Engineering, or Environmental Science.
  • Knowledge of WA regulatory framework to obtain and maintain required environmental approvals and water licenses.
  • Knowledge of mine water management associated with mine dewatering. 
  • Using knowledge of groundwater occurrence, flow and chemistry to develop and communicate hydrogeological conceptual models which support approvals, impact assessment, dewatering, surplus water management, and mine water supply.
  • Use of databases and procedures to store and extract high quality water data to support compliance reporting, trend analysis and data-based decision making.
