This role has been created within the Tailings Project Owners team to proactively identify, facilitate, and implement improvement opportunities throughout the TSF project development. The role will directly support improvement opportunities for the Tailings Construction and work directly with the relevant construction foreman and supervisors (or equivalents) to proactively identify and recommend real time improvement opportunities to improve construction performance, reduce costs and eliminate waste.

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Who we’re looking for
The Continuous Improvement Specialist will assist the Continuous Improvement Manager in maintaining a register of continuous Improvement initiatives designed to streamline and improve Cadia Integrated Tailings Project delivery and standards.
- Develop appropriate metrics to monitor the effectiveness of Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a suite of Continuous Improvement Team tracking tools that identify initiative status, value/impact, consolidate actions, and forward work plan for the portfolio.
- Develop an improvement plan to detail areas for optimisation (WHS, Fleet utilisation…) inclusive of implementation methodologies and time frames.
- Implement appropriate reporting as required including any required weekly/Monthly reporting, assisting with internal and external auditing processes, annual statutory reporting such as the Annual.
- Proactive identification of opportunities crossing all project disciplines including planning, schedule, cost, and construction performance.
- Where requested, support subsequent project reviews to define continuous improvement opportunities in consultation with the TSF Construction Management Team (Manager – Human Resources, HSEQ, Engineering, Construction and Project Services)
- Develop and lead implementation of data capture requirements to inform trending and opportunities.
- Participate in initial and follow up project reviews including daily weekly, and monthly reports. Assist in developing continuous improvement opportunities to close gaps regarding planning, schedule and performance whilst reducing project costs.
- Assist the Team and projects management to address identified gaps and define improvement opportunities, where requested. This may include fulfilling short term project roles as/when required. Such placements may be due to skills shortage, personnel change, or recruitment.
- Collaboration and participation across the TSF Construction Team by way of site visits, meetings participation, reports review to identify and expedite improvement opportunities.
- Research into improvement methods/technologies/industry trends, and interface with ‘parent’ company organisations to understand and translate opportunities identified within their larger organisations.
- Interfacing with the Cadia Valley Operations performance and SPP teams to ensure alignment of the projects continuous improvement objectives with CVO’s broader performance goals (POAP)
- Provide input the project master schedule to ensure that improvement opportunities are embedded in regular PDCA cycles as planned activities.
- Provide input the project master cost estimate and forecasting cycles to ensure that value associated with improvement opportunities are captured as part of the regular financial forecasting cycles.
- Co-Ordinating reporting as required including: Any required weekly/Monthly reporting, assisting with internal and external auditing processes, annual statutory reporting such as the Annual Review, Environment Protection Licence Annual Return, Federal EPBC Annual Report, NGERS, NPI etc as required.
- Management of contractors as required.
Who we are looking for:
- Experience in Tailings Construction and / or Surface Mining; including demonstratable mix of project life cycle involvement. Cert 4 in Frontline Management desirable
- Demonstrated similar previous Portfolio oversight role in a Project Management discipline e.g., Project Continuous Improvement, Reliability Improvement, or Process/Procedure development and refinement.
- Project Management qualifications are desirable. However, demonstrable Project Management experience and Continuous Improvement methodology is essential.
- Involvement across all project phases from study through to execution, including construction and commissioning is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and lead change to produce results.
- Strong consultative and influencing skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level skills in MS Office suite as well as software/applications
