An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual to join the Belinga Project team as the Technical Manager.

The Belinga Project is located in the Republic of Gabon, Central Africa, and is potentially one of the world’s largest undeveloped, high-grade hematite deposits. Ivindo Iron, the Joint Venture between Fortescue Metals Group and the Africa Transformation and Industrialization Fund (ATIF), will evaluate and look to develop the Belinga Project.

Position: Technical Manager – Belinga Operations (Rotation: 6 weeks on : 3 weeks off, via APAC or 4 weeks on : 2 weeks off via Europe)

We are currently seeking a Technical Manager to join our Belinga Iron Ore Operation, in Gabon.

Reporting to the site-based Operations Manager, you will be responsible for developing the mine operating plan and supporting mining operations through the development and provision of technical and planning standards, procedures, and direction to achieve an optimal mine production profile by combining planning and production processes.

Key duties will include:

  • Provide leadership and input into Strategic planning, Life of Mine, Resource & Reserve, and Budget planning cycles to support the achievement of strategic objectives and ensure that mining related issues are considered and communicated to appropriate parties.
  • Ensure the Technical Services department provides support to mining operations in areas of delivering the Business plan, Short, Medium- & Long-Term planning, Drill & Blast, Grade Control, Geotechnical, Survey, and Infrastructure projects as required
  • Manage the development and maintenance of mining systems, including documenting practices and procedures, and providing feedback on the effectiveness of these systems to the Operations Manager
  • Provide proactive leadership to ensure safe work place, system and tools to operation support team members
  • Management of mine blending from pit and stockpile to achieve quality targets
  • Management of production engineering functions, mine schedules and designs
  • Management of mine surveying function including end of month volume reporting, periodic aerial flyover
  • Providing assistance to mine production to implement any productivity improvement projects
  • Assisting operational superintendents and supervisors in understanding and implementing production and development schedules
  • Provide input to compliance reports.

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • Bilingual English / French speaking (required)
  • Minimum Mining Engineering or Geology bachelor degree, or equivalent earth sciences qualification
  • Displayed experience in a similar operational management position
  • Overall 15+ years of mining engineering experience.
  • Considerable experience, preferably in open pit iron ore mining with exposure to production operations
  • Excellent communication, time management, organizational and continuous improvement skills
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a team of technical personnel
