Junior Administrator - Database

Macmahon has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Database Administrator to join our team in Perth. Reporting to the Database and Applications Administrator, the main focus of the role is to maintain and monitor the SQL and reporting services environment and how it interacts with the applications connecting to it.

With over 55 years of experience, Macmahon is a mining contractor with a unique capability of offering its clients surface, underground and mining support services.

The role 

• Monitor SQL Server instances across production and development environments 
• Monitor and maintain reporting services
• Ensure integrity of SQL backups and restores
• Troubleshoot SQL performance issues
• Assist with changes to SSIS and SSRS as required
• Work with SQL database reliant applications
• Assist with reducing SQL footprint with database consolidation
• Formalise process as procedures and/or workflows
• Assist with maintaining SQL server security
• Liaise with Application owners to improve business reporting needs

The ideal candidate

• 1 year experience in a similar role or has University project with strong database component
• Experience in writing scripts with T-SQL 
• Excellent documentation skills
• Be able to construct ETL workflows
• Basic level knowledge of the C# programming language
• Have used a reporting tool (SSRS, Power BI or similar)
• Knowledge of DR planning and testing
• Demonstrates the following attributes – analytical, adaptable, proactive & conscientious 
• Generalist Windows services and Infrastructure experience a plus
• Knowledge of SOAP and OData protocols
• Data warehousing and BI experience highly regarded
