Laboratory Supervisor 

Work Location: Christmas Creek - Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

Roster: 8D/6R, 7N/7R FIFO ex. Perth 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Supervisor to join the site-based Operations Planning team. This permanent position is offered on a family friendly 8/6 7/7 dayshift, nightshift roster. Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Services, you will be embedded to support our current Mine Analytics Lab tasks and functions with future growth expected. Your focus will be supporting a team of Laboratory Technicians, ensuring all operational and maintenance works are carried out safely and to high standards in line with the Fortescue Values. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Adhere to Fortescue’s vision and values 
  • Drive a strong team focus on safety, ensuring all hazards and field leaderships are uploaded into Fortescue’s Business Management System 
  • Ensure samples analyses are completed within the target TAT’s, communicating to the relevant teams where there are delays or breakdowns 
  • Mentor the team in best Laboratory Analysis practices, with a focus on the importance of eliminating sample bias and the effects of it on the Mine-to-Port supply chain
  • Ensure all Safe Work Instructions are up to date and regularly reviewed with the team to identify any gaps or opportunities for improvements 
  • Actively contribute to the development of the quarterly 3-Month rolling maintenance schedule, highlighting any risks to operations
  • Proactively ensure preventative maintenance works are carried out in line with the maintenance schedule, liaising with the NPI/OPF support teams as required
  • Manage consumable and spare part stock levels to ensure the Laboratory has everything required for continuous operations 
  • Compilation of daily, weekly and monthly production and quality reports

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in Laboratories analysing Iron Ore samples, including both manual and automated processing
  • Previous experience leading a small team of laboratory technicians
  • Able to effectively liaise with OEMs to troubleshoot equipment breakdowns
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel 
  • Current Radiation Safety License from the WA Radiological Council 
  • Previous experience with Panalytical XRF analysers and their SuperQ application 
  • Previous experience in Prepmaster and ControlTrack Maintenance applications  
  • Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (or equivalent) is desirable
