Laboratory Technician
Work Location: Christmas Creek - Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 8D/6R, 7N/7R FIFO ex. Perth
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and motivated Laboratory Technicians to join the site-based Operations Planning team. This permanent position is offered on a family friendly 8/6 7/7 dayshift, nightshift roster. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for preparing, analysing and completing quality assurance on iron ore samples processed via manual and automated circuits. You will ensure these tasks are completed safely and to the high standards in line with the Fortescue Values. On the job and external training will be provided to the right candidates.
Key responsibilities include:
- Adhere to Fortescue’s vision and values
- Actively maintain a strong focus on safety, raising hazards to the Supervisor and entering into Fortescue’s Business Management System
- Preparation and analysis of iron ore samples through manual and automated processing circuits in line with Safe Working Instructions
- Complete QA/QC checks over sample analysis results, determining whether to report or rerun samples as required
- Perform basic maintenance and house keeping tasks on Laboratory equipment to eliminate risk of sample bias/contamination or equipment damage
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience working in a Laboratory processing resource samples is desirable
- Bring a willingness and enthusiastic approach to learning about sample preparation and analysis methods, including possible sources of sample bias and contamination
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel
- A current (or willing to obtain) Radiation Safety License from the WA Radiological Council
- Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (or equivalent) is desirable
- Current “C” Class Western Australian Driver’s Licence
