We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to be part of the Quality team at DSL in Dampier. The technician plays an integral role in the business, responsible for collecting and analysing samples, and utilising data to make informed decisions about field management.

What you’ll bring

  • Cert IV in laboratory techniques (or equivalent)
  • “C” Class Drivers licence
  • Experience as a Laboratory Technician (or equivalent)
  • Experience with computers systems and software such as SAP and ChemAlert
  • Technical and analytical experience in chemical analysis including wet chemistry, AAS, and density determination.
  • Collecting field samples and performing field inspections
  • Monitoring field operations through data analysis and observations and making recommendations to optimise the process
  • Performing equipment checks and calibration checks in order to maintain the operation and accuracy of the laboratory equipment
  • Preparing samples in accordance with procedures, ensuring samples are representative
  • Ensuring accuracy of results and issuing results and reports in required timeframes
  • Communicating with other site teams to ensure the field is being maintained and operated as required to meet quality and site plans
  • Provide technical support to site personnel

Where you’ll be working

As part of the wider Rio Tinto Iron Ore operations, Dampier Salt has three operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Carnarvon and is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. Through a sustainable process of solar evaporation of sea water, we reliably deliver high quality salt essential for making thousands of products used in everyday life. Gypsum is additionally mined and processed at our Lake MacLeod operations.
