We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest from local aboriginal persons; as defined in the Western Cape Communities Coexistence Agreement who are interested in Local Aboriginal Person (LAP) traineeships.

Crane Operator –to develop skills to safely and efficiently move and deliver large objects and equipment using a crane as part of a team.

Duties include:

  • On site set up of the crane (often including the set up and levelling of outriggers);
  • Ensuring that the capacity of the crane is sufficient to carry the load;
  • Identifying and addressing any obstructions that could hinder the lift;
  • Inspecting the crane before use to ensure that all controls, instruments, and gauges are in good working condition;
  • Positioning the hook for doggers to attach loads and chains etc;
  • Controlling the movement, speed, and positioning of the load in accordance with the directions provided by dogmen;
  • Inspecting the crane for damage or wear, lubricating ropes and winches and replacing worn cables; and
  • Performing rigging and dogman duties and truck operations.

What you’ll bringTo be successfully considered for these opportunities, you must be a local aboriginal person [as defined in the Western Cape Communities Coexistence Agreement]. You will need to have:

  • A full unrestricted C class manual drivers licence (*we are unable to accept applications from those with probationary, suspended or extraordinary licences)
  • The ability to pass a fitness for work assessment and an alcohol and drug screen
  • A good level of literacy, language and numeracy skills
  • Local Aboriginal Person (LAP) status (completed form to be emailed back)

Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
