The Opportunity – Permanent, Full Time Position
Joining the Manager Financial Reporting’s team as Principal Policy Accounting, you will be responsible for ensuring Group compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards, including practical application of accouting principals to commercial transactions and development and maintenance of group accounting policies for application by the finance function throughout the Group.
Key Accountabilities:
- An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development
- Responsible for the development and implementation of accounting policies and interpretations for application by the finance function throughout the Group
- Co-lead the project management, analysis, interpretation, and implementation of new standards in respect of sustainability-related financial disclosures (ISSB) together with Sustainability Strategy team
- Provide judgemental advice to S32 Finance and non-Finance teams across the group on accounting policy, standards, and interpretations
- Responsible for the Accounting Matters for Consideration process including the coordination, consolidation, identification of issues and reporting to the CFO
- Review, engage and advise on the Half Year and Year End consolidated financial statements and process
- Coordinate and lead activities to draft, prepare and lead activities associated with writing reports to the Risk and Audit Committee in association with finance matters
- Lead finance policy engagement with Corporate Development on projects/ investments decisions, assess acquisition accounting and provide advice/supporting accounting papers on other relevant accounting impacts
- Lead engagement with external auditors on critical accounting papers and material, judgmental matters
- Ensure that a fit for purpose internal control environment operates, is compliant with Group requirements, and is effective. Complete verification processes over internal controls as scheduled and/or requested. Provide as required ah-hoc support to the Manager Financial Reporting and VP Group Financial Control.
About You
- Excellent understanding of International Accounting Standards and their application to Group financial reporting
- A history of facilitation, influencing and interpersonal skills, essential to building constructive relationships and credibility with diverse stakeholders and cross functional teams
- Possesses the capacity to operate autonomously, and track record of leading a team well and adding value to it
- Demonstrates South32 Leadership Capabilities and exhibits these behaviours on a consistent basis
- Able to lead change and adjust to it, effective in ambiguous situations
- Asks the right questions to examine, verify assumptions and gain an understanding of the situations and/or the root cause of the problem before forming judgement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with people at all levels
Qualifications
- Post Grad Diploma and or Prof Registration
- Bachelor’s degree + CA/CPA or equivalent accounting qualification
