Queensland Coal comprises the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) and BHP Mitsui Coal (BMC) assets in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, Australia.
Our seven Queensland Coal mines are based throughout the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland: Blackwater, Broadmeadow, Caval Ridge, Daunia, Goonyella Riverside, Peak Downs, , Saraji.
About the Role
Lead Business Improvement Projects is responsible for the identification, planning and execution of complex and strategic improvement initiatives within IROC+ Control Execution – as well as identifying and communicating value of these initiatives that may be realised within additional IROC+ teams.
This role applies advanced project, change and stakeholder management in combination with data analysis and problem-solving skills to drive world-leading truck and shovel performance.
Reporting to Superintendent Fleet Management, your accountabilities include:
- Assist in the development of the planning process (1 Year and 5 Year – Master Plan) through identification and prioritisation of initiatives being proposed, in addition to strategic thinking and leading top down and bottom-up planning processes to develop project pipelines.
- Develop and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders to ensure our customer needs are completely understood and are the integral focus.
- Establishing and improving best practices for process design, process management and change management in IROC+ as core pillars of successful transformation.
- Sources information, plans and conducts analyses to support evidence-based decision making.
- Plans, tracks the delivery of and manages complex process improvement initiatives across our operations to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes.
- Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems.
- Develops and communicates quantifiable business cases to other parts of the business to create buy in.
- Develop high quality project deliverables including process design, technical specifications, training documentation and communication artefacts.
- Analyse data to frame opportunity value and compare uplift to baseline performance
- Train, coach and mentor others in the IROC+ team to build their capability across desired technical capabilities.
- Facilitate Train-the-Trainer sessions to upskill instructors and prepare them for the long-term delivery of new training courses.

About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
- Demonstrated application of Project Management and/or Change Management methodologies.
- Experience in mining operations or large-scale industry in operational site or production at supervisory level.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills including conducting investigations and defining root causes.
- Excellent communication skill and advanced stakeholder management skills from frontline to senior leadership.
- Tertiary qualification (diploma or above) within the following fields: STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics OR Business-related fields.
- It is not mandatory, however Project Management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2 or PMBOK) OR Change Management qualification (Prosci Change Certification or equivalent) OR equivalent experience will be advantageous.
- Foundational understanding of Fleet Management Systems will be advantageous.
- It is not mandatory, however Advanced data analytics capabilities (e.g. TIBCO Spotfire, MS SQL) will be advantageous.
Location
In this full-time permanent position, you will be based in our Brisbane corporate office and site travel to the Bowen Basin as required.
