Title: Lead Control Systems Engineer – Rail
Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)
Roster: 5/2 roster
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet and rail locomotive.
Based at our new Hazelmere R&D facility, we are looking for an experienced Lead Control Systems Engineer to work on the world-first Infinity Train project.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Lead a team of Control Systems Engineers and Seniors to work on the Infinity Train project
- Ensure successful delivery of control systems, data, and software deliverables for the project
- Drive the control systems team to achieve stretch targets and ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget
- Provide regular progress updates to Chief and Principal Engineers, and escalate technical issues as necessary
- Plan and prioritize resources within the control systems group, and participate in the recruitment process
- Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines and project management team in a V-Model product development framework
- Develop and implement software development lifecycle workflow, and establish processes and frameworks
- Ensure the control systems design, implementation and testing comply to relevant standards and Functional Safety requirements
- Ensure control systems and software undergo comprehensive verification and validation process, resulting in quality, reliable, and consistent products
- Maintain a strong focus on product development, delivering a system that is ready for manufacturing and sales to customers
- Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the control systems group working on the Infinity Train project
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor of Engineering degree
- 10+ years experience in control systems and/or software development
- 5+ years experience in a technical leadership role
- Experience with rail rollingstock design and development is essential
- Experience with heavy-haul locomotive design is highly advantageous
- Experience with Rail Functional Safety standards (i.e. EN50128) is highly advantageous
- Experience with Model-Based development with Matlab/Simulink is highly advantageous
- Strong leadership skills, able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and in multidiscipline teams
- Ability to learn fast and work in a dynamic environment
- Strong, effective verbal and written communication skills
