Lead Electrical Engineer – Engineering - Studies and Projects

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue Centre - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: 5:2 (Monday to Friday) (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

A fantastic opportunity for a senior-level lead electrical engineer to join our Engineering and design team to assist in growing the design team's electrical engineering capabilities and produce consistent, high-quality designs for our site stakeholders.

This role will initially be offered as a 12-month fixed term position, to support our operations and projects teams.

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will be responsible for the electrical design and solutions for the studies and projects teams.
  • Building and maintaining the electrical engineering and design team capability within the business to support the studies and project workload.
  • Producing electrical design deliverables (Schematics, cable calculations, cable schedules, equipment lists, termination diagrams etc)
  • Leading electrical design review meetings with the site operations and Mining teams
  • Be the key interface between site operations, projects teams and our Perth based engineering team
  • Actively engaging with our design team regarding electrical design improvements, recommendations

Education and Experience:  

  • A firm understanding of safety in design and applicable Australian and International Standards (Electrical calculations, cable sizing, equipment selection and procurement)
  • Development of electrical deliverables (Single line diagrams / Termination diagrams / Scope of work)
  • Experience in Instrument & Control engineering would be highly desirable. (Instrument selection, PLC/Modbus Integration, Control philosophies etc)
  • Relevant University degree in Electrical Engineering, with an excellent technical writing skills
  • Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus and excellent problem-solving skills and continual improvement focus
  • Knowledge of relevant mines legislations and regulations, as well as planning, organisational, budgeting, scheduling and coordination skills
