About the Role

As a Lead Reliability Engineer, you will Lead a team of Specialist Engineers to deliver technical expertise improve & protect BHP Assets. In this role you will be responsible for the analysis, benchmarking and internal audit of Maintenance function’s end-to-end performance and coordinates the identification and implementation of improvement initiatives. The role will be based at Port Hedland, on a 5/2 Residential or 5/2,4/3 FIFO options. Reporting to Superintendent Reliability your key accountabilities include:

  • Develop, optimise and governs asset/maintenance strategies to drive continuous improvement and replication of best practices across assets and equipment while optimising value for the long term.
  • Monitor all asset/equipment parameters to develop a comprehensive portfolio of signs and triggers to develop predictive maintenance programs.
  • Control contamination across the organisation through structured and disciplined handling, storage and disposal of consumables and contaminants.
  • Determine the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems. 
  • Translate corporate objectives into actionable plans, communicating, managing and analysing the implementation of those plans.
  • Coach and Mentor the engineers & graduates & set direction and expectations for the team & develop high performing teams.
  • Development and prioritisation of the forward log & capital portfolio of work in the area.
  • Drives business improvement through the measurement of BHP's performance.

About You

You will have a strong desire to coach and lead a team and may have previous experience in a leadership role. You actively engage your stakeholders and enjoy collaboration and networking. You will be a performance and achievement oriented professional, who is motivated by exceeding expectations and achieving excellent results. You will have:

  • Bachelor Degree or qualified in Engineering (preferred Mechanical or Electrical) or tertiary related discipline;
  • Experience in Reliability Engineering & maintenance programs,  methods & techniques or experience in similar Engineering roles;
  • Rail experience in reliability maintenance will be beneficial;
  • Experience in Locomotive (HME, Diesel Electric Loco, etc) or Ore Car Maintenance will be highly regarded;
  • Understanding defect elimination, RCA’s with a mindset for preventative maintenance;
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques advantageous;
  • Proficiency in 1SAP maintenance components preferable;
  • Ability to influence, engage with & communicate effectively across multiple levels, business units, functional areas and external stakeholders;
  • A high commitment to safety, quality, attention to detail and procedures.
