About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Engineering you will assume a leadership role within our experienced mechanical engineering team. You will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering leadership, mentoring and technical expertise to your team, the wider Engineering Department and the Copper SA asset.

This role is based in Adelaide on a Monday - Friday basis (with flexibility).  Travel to site will be required.  

In this role you will:

  • Be focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team in achieving continuous safety improvement.
  • Set technical direction and strategy as part of the Technical Engineering leadership team.
  • Provide leadership, prioritise, review and manage the effective delivery of technical engineering activities including, engineering design, engineering assessments, engineering standards and engineering first line assurance across the Copper SA Asset.
  • Supports team performance and capability development through peer support, collaboration, sharing of lessons learned and providing on-time feedback. 
  • Seeks to understand their own strengths and development areas and identifies a variety of strategies/learning approaches to continually build their capability (e.g. targeted skill development, on the job experiences and feedback). 
  • Coach and guide team members to identify improvement opportunities, problem solve and improve how we work.
  • Provide technical guidance to support third parties to align with BHP engineering standards.
  • Support engineering activities across the Copper SA asset and capital projects to ensure consistent fit for purpose engineering standards are applied.
  • Exercise a proficient level of technical knowledge and expertise to independently make informed decisions.

About You

Your experience will include:

  • Engineering Degree qualification
  • Experience in mining, processing, complex construction or heavy industrial environments with a range of roles including technical support, projects and leadership.
  • Highly engaged, collaborative and committed to building mutually beneficial relationships across operational and functional teams.
  • Experience in a senior role with engineering design, safety in design, engineering management, statutory compliance and risk management.
  • Effective and influential team leadership experience with proven change culture demonstrated.
  • Well-developed communication skills with an interest in providing technical leadership, support and solutions.
  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and decision making.
