About the Role
Join us as a passionate leader in a Lead Mine Geologist position, where you will demonstrate your exceptional leadership skills and provide mentoring to Mine Geologists and Technicians alongside delivering technical outputs. This role involves ensuring safe implementation and completion of Mine Geology functions while adhering to guidelines and policies.
Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (80-minute flight from Adelaide / 45-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8/6 site based
Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time
Reporting to: Geology Superintendent – Prominent Hill
How you will create impact:
- Supervise an Underground Geology team, ensuring safe and industry-best practices.
- Provide quality and timely geological support to boost Mine production.
- Monitor development and stope grade performance, acting on variances outside acceptable limits.
- Incorporate diamond drilling information into underground Grade Control Block Models.
- Safely collect and maintain drill core logging data.
- Support geology QA/QC systems and processes, ensuring accurate data management in a geological database.
- Provide input into the generation, definition, and ranking of near mine extensional and exploration drill targets.
- Demonstrate proactive and timely project management, delivering on timelines and summarising outcomes.
- Offer specialised technical support to all Mine Geology team functions.
- Assist in continual development, improvement, and documentation of UG Geology systems and processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate data collection, validation, and delivery to customers.
- Complete Stope Reconciliations and quarterly reporting.
- Conduct End of Month reconciliations accurately and address variances beyond acceptable limits.
- Assist the Geology Superintendent in preparing annual department budgets.
- Manage department expenditure in line with the budget.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Meet agreed Geology Department KPIs.
About You
- Sound technical skills in geological and mining techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of drill core processing systems and techniques.
- Extensive understanding of data QA/QC processes, related to sample practices, protocols, and analytical analysis.
- Proficiency in geological and structural logging and mapping.
- Experience in geological and 3D grade interpretation/modelling of grade control and diamond drilling data.
- Familiarity with grade estimation techniques and block model creation.
- Proactive in time management and autonomy.
- Well-developed analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Competence in mine production management, grade control, and diamond drilling processes.
- Understanding of various geological data collection methods and underground grade control/mining practices.
- Experience in reconciliation of mine production and grade control data.
- Recognised Geoscience degree.
