We have multiple opportunities available in our Operational Readiness team as a Lead, Operational Readiness dedicated to the Perth team to ensure safe, reliable, operable and maintainable assets are delivered in alignment with RTIO strategic priorities.
The vision is to embed an organisational blueprint for Rio Tinto’s Pilbara Mine Operations, which will be the standard for future organisational design at every site moving forward.

At a system level, you will develop and implement best practice management of operational readiness (OR) strategies, processes and tools that divisional operational readiness teams will apply at their site.
These roles provides you the opportunity to identify and deliver performance improvement opportunities through the application of leading-edge analytics to complex data sets across iron ore projects and operational readiness activities.
Reporting to the Manager Operational Readiness and working in a collaborative community within the Operational Excellence division, you will be:
- Providing ongoing guidance and support to divisional OR teams, ensuring a consistent approach to activities associated with the integration management, with a focus on planning, organisation and reporting, cost estimation, risk management and data analysis across a range of metrics
- Forming OR Teams with guidance early on as to how best to integrate with the Project and Operations through leveraging existing opportunities in operations cycles
- Evaluating OR and project processes, anticipating requirements, uncovering areas for improvement, and developing and implementing solutions across PMO
- Ensure constraints and operational restrictions are incorporated into designs, including improvements and lessons learnt from previous projects and existing operations
- Facilitate excellent communication between operations teams and project personnel with a strong focus on interface management
- Provide coaching and support to operational and project leaders on opportunities to align or improve process
- Build business operational readiness and project capability across the division, leveraging broader learning opportunities and practices
- Apply discipline, governance and quality assurance across all divisional projects
- Develop strong interfaces and relationships with external partners and stakeholders
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Tertiary degree in a relevant field, for example, Business, Engineering or Project Management
- Six Sigma (Black/Green Belt) and/or Lean Methodology experience is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience in Operational Readiness and Operations / Project / Study management in Rio Tinto and a demonstrated understanding of the project lifecycle (major and Sustaining Capital), delivery model and interfaces
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- Strong influencing skills and ability to develop and build credibility among peers to influence outcomes and encourage collaboration
- Exposure to financial modelling and cost estimation, financial reporting
- Ability to interpret and report on complex data
- Capability to write conclusive reports and create documents presenting requirements and developed plans, strategies and approaches

Where you’ll be working
You will be based at our head office located in Perth Central Park building, working Monday to Friday with regular site travel required. We encourage agile and flexible work arrangements.
