About the Role

  An exciting opportunity in our Western Australia Assets Projects team for Lead Operational Readiness role.   

The main purpose of this role is to lead a highly skilled and diverse team to deliver asset-based projects.  As a leading contributor you will be supporting the Operational Readiness Team to safely deliver Operational specific requirements of the assigned projects. This will include the management of collaboration with both Project Functions and Operational Teams, participation in project reviews and risk assessments and development of project Operational Readiness strategies, plans and deliverables.

As part of  Asset Projects Operational Readiness Leadership Teams you will seek feedback from your team, develop solutions and implement improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and productivity for the Operational Readiness function both in your regional team, and within Minerals Australia. Reporting to the Manager Operational Readiness in your region, your accountabilities include to:  

  • Ensure an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental and community responsibility is maintained through Operational Readiness activities.
  • Ensure HSE, Quality and Productivity KPIs are meeting monthly targets.
  • Facilitate, execute and maintain the Operational Readiness requirements across Asset Projects
  • Develop operational readiness plans/schedules and deliverables, evaluates systems/procedures for compliance with standards and defines training/handover requirements to efficiently prepare the asset for operations. 
  • Conduct engineering tasks, verifies construction methodologies and provide advise on engineering decisions for projects in alignment with Project/Construction/Commissioning Engineering Standards.
  • Apply an understanding of the Operation's systems, activities, risk handover and key processes, terminology, and workflow. 
  • Identify and assess risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. 
  • Collaborate closely with Project, Operational and Functional representatives to ensure the successful integration of projects into their hosting assets.
  • Manage change effectively and efficiently to enhance the team’s performance. 
  • Plan and continuously review/improve plan to deliver highest project outcomes.

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Proven track record of commitment to HSEC (Health, Safety, Environment & Community)
  • Demonstrated Project operational readiness experience - delivering projects to site operations.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage with and resolve issues with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Mining development, Production, Maintenance, Reliability Engineering, Resource Planning, Data & Analytic, or Quality (in Capital Project context) experience is beneficial.
  • Project Management / leadership experience - leading teams and managing objectives.
  • Great collaboration skills to solve problems across functions and gain support.
  • An effective workshop facilitator.
  • Ability to work independently and under own initiative.
  • High prioritisation skills - must be able to prioritise work and schedules to achieve deliverables.
  • A good understanding of the systems, processes and organisational capabilities required to handover, operate and maintain a new asset including knowledge of SAP and maintenance requirements including an understanding of Document Management Systems, including Smart Plant for Operations (SPO).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or relevant Trade.
  • Lean/Six Sigma continues improvement mindset.

Location and Roster

You will be Perth based, with frequent site visits to ensure deliverables are meeting stakeholder expectations throughout the project phases.  During execution and handover, it is likely that you will attend site on a regular roster to manage deliverables, liaise with stakeholders and manage the site OR team.  You will be working on Monday-Friday roster, with flexible work also offered.
