About the Role
We require a dynamic professional who has demonstrated experience and a proven understanding of pastoral relationship management and pastoral land stewardship.
Reporting to the Manager Land Access and Approvals Copper South Australia – the Lead Pastoral Partnerships and Land Stewardship will lead a small team working in a fast-paced collaborative environment, requiring high attention to detail and excellent organisation and communication skills.
This includes developing and strengthening pastoral relationships, social investment partnerships, and pastoral projects delivering positive social value.
This position is to be Adelaide, with frequent regional (and often remote) travel to engage with Pastoral Partners associated with our Copper South Australia operations required (Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill, Carrapateena and Oak Dam). Flexible work options will be considered.
In this role you will:
- Lead a small team supporting Pastoral Partnerships and Land Stewardship activities in South Australia.
- Have a positive presence in the community through strong relationships and regular engagements with Pastoral stakeholders, including routine meetings and attendance at industry events.
- Work with internal and external partners to develop quality social investment projects and programs.
- Have regular engagements with internal and external stakeholders, gathering feedback and through problem solving identifying continuous improvement opportunities. This includes strengthening engagement between the BHP operations and Pastoralist stakeholders.
- Facilitate the negotiation of commercial negotiations with Pastoralists (land access agreements).
- Proactively manage BHP’s pastoral portfolio ensuring compliance with Lease conditions and legislation including provision of advice and input on BHP land stewardship initiatives.
- Develop and implement land access and management standards within the operational context and the associated frameworks, policies and practices of BHP.
- Adhere to BHP Global Standards, Functional Guidance, and Compliance frameworks.
- Actively contribute to the broader Land Access and Approvals Team’s performance and improvement projects with a strong focus on culture and capability.
- Work collaboratively across the integrated Copper SA Corporate Affairs, Indigenous Engagement and Environment teams to protect and enhance business reputation.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be collaborative and strategically minded with high level of influencing and stakeholder engagement skills. You are able to work autonomously to deliver and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment whilst reaching into the functional support teams as required.
You will be adept at working with a diverse range of stakeholders and have a solid understanding of pastoral enterprises. A background and/or qualification in law, commerce, engineering science or environmental and land management is desirable. Employment in a similar role with demonstrated experience in and knowledge of mining operations and/or grazing and farming operations will be considered favourably.
You are passionate about building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and you thrive on establishing mutual respect to reach desired outcomes. You will be a good communicator with the ability to show compassion and understanding to local landholders while maintaining a professional temperament.
Further you will be experienced at managing land portfolios and licensee agreements. You will be an effective problem solver, capable of negotiating and influencing stakeholders to ensure all parties are satisfied.
