On 29th August 2024, Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) ownership changed from South32 to Gear M Illawarra Met Coal Pty Ltd trading as GM3. For an interim period between September 2024 to February 2025, South32 will continue to provide recruitment services on behalf of GM³. GM3 is an emerging Australian metallurgical coal mining entity owned by global investment entity Golden Energy and Resources (GEAR) and M Resources, a market leader in metallurgical coal industry services.

Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) produces premium quality, hard coking coal for steelmaking, which is transported within Australia and around the world. We operate two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent full-time position based at the GM3 office in the Brisbane CBD.

As the Lead Payroll, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and implementing the new GM³ Payroll system. Post-implementation, you'll lead and inspire the team to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll outcomes. This role involves forging strong relationships with HR, the GM³ Sites, and external advisors to meet deadlines and achieve goals.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Shape and influence customers experience and use of payroll services in operations and functions.
  • Create the payroll team vision by promoting the HR strategic plan and targets.
  • Contribute to the design and lead the implementation of the governance model for payroll systems and processes.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, learning and development and continuous improvement.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Prior experience in a similar role, preferably within mining or heavy industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Australian payroll statutory and legislative requirements.
  • Experience in leading process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to facilitate programs and activities across multiple sites and functional areas.
  • Proficient in the use of variable payroll systems (preferably SAP)

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Relevant qualifications in Payroll, Human Resources or related disciplines
