About Mt Arthur Coal

Mt Arthur Coal open-cut energy coal mine is located in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia and produces coal for international customers in the energy sector. 

BHP recently announced they will retain Mt Arthur Coal in its portfolio, seek the relevant approvals to continue mining beyond its current mining consent that expires in 2026 and proceed with a managed process to cease mining by the end of the 2030 financial year and prepare for closure.    

About the Role

As an integral part of the Engineering Projects Team’s, the Lead Portfolio Management is responsible for provision of portfolio management services for a large and widely diverse multimillion-dollar portfolio of projects. This is achieved by leading, operating, maintaining and improving the Team’s Portfolio Management Office (PMO), which provides the business with portfolio-level services and leadership in areas such as;

  • Capital and operational projects prioritisation, budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Governance, risk management and compliance.
  • Reporting, control and monitoring of portfolio metrics such as costs, schedule and resourcing planning.
  • Contract Management Framework.
  • Standards, processes, tools and systems.
  • Management of the continuous improvement process of the Engineering Projects Team.

As part of the Engineering Department at Mt Arthur Coal, this role will report to the Superintendent Projects, will lead a small team of professionals and will actively work with a wide range of stakeholders across the business.

The exposure to Mt Arthur Coal’s large and unique portfolio of projects coupled with active interfaces with most facets of the business will provide you with a distinctive experience, professional growth and development opportunities.

About You

We are seeking applicants with relevant experience and/or qualifications in;

  • Portfolio, program and/or project management, and/or projects controls.
  • Development, implementation and continuous improvement of processes, systems and tools.
  • Leadership, facilitation and integration of work within multidisciplinary teams.

Your ability to deliver value whilst building and maintaining effective working relationships will see you be successful in the business. You must have successful organisational skills and the focus to deliver quality, timely outcomes and demonstrate willingness to learn and develop. You should demonstrate the ability to adapt rapidly to a changing work environment and respond positively to ambiguous situations. You will be a critical thinker and problem solver coupled with confidence to influence and negotiate outcomes and/or make recommendations.  We are looking for great team players holders of an optimistic and can-do attitude who are customer-focused and value the importance of collaboration.
