We have an exciting opportunity to join the Fortescue Metals Corporate Development team as Lead Principal – Corporate Development.
Fortescue is actively growing and diversifying its global metals portfolio. Following the recent acquisitions of Red Hawk Mining and Alta Copper, this role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to Fortescue's next phase of growth.
You will support the Corporate Development team to identify, pursue and negotiate a range of transactions, including corporate acquisitions, earn-in joint ventures and other partnerships. Your remit will span the full Metals business, including value-accretive opportunities in the Pilbara to enhance our existing iron ore operations and global opportunities across critical minerals, with a core focus on copper.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Corporate Development, you will be part of a small, high-performing team and work closely with senior leaders and subject matter experts across Exploration, Technical, Finance, Legal and other functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake financial modelling and valuation activities, working closely with technical experts and incorporating due diligence findings
- Closely follow merger and acquisition activity in the metals sector, identifying market trends and positioning Fortescue to participate in opportunities
- Research and screen investment opportunities
- Analyse strategic opportunities and develop commercial strategies and transaction structures
- Lead aspects of transactions, including coordinating cross-functional due diligence across commercial, technical, financial, legal and other disciplines
- Support transaction negotiations, structuring and execution, including engagement with external advisors
- Prepare analysis and provide recommendations to investment decision steering committees and Executives
- Assist with the preparation of high-quality investment decision papers and presentations for Executives and the Board
- Assist with the successful integration of acquisitions in collaboration with other support functions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, corporate finance or another business development or transaction-focused role in a global and fast-paced organisation
- Experience in resources, heavy industry, energy or infrastructure will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and executing acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic investments or other complex transactions
- Strong financial modelling and valuation capabilities, supported by excellent numerical and analytical skills
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex financial, technical and strategic information into clear recommendations
- A tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, economics, commerce or equivalent
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build strong relationships and influence key stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to prepare clear, compelling and executive-quality reports, presentations and analysis in PowerPoint
